GHANAIANS EXPRESS SATISFACTION IN THE NEW PRINTED CEDI NOTES

Majority of Ghanaians have expressed fulfillment in the Bank of Ghana’s release of the new 1, 10, 20 and 50 cedis note on May 6th.

The newly printed cedi notes with security-enhanced features which comes with what BoG defines as “improved durability and defined features” has been heavily received with warmth by citizens. Although the publicity of the new currency was not thorough as it used to due to a majority of interviewees seeking to see the new prints before making a comment yet that did not rule their love for the new print when they saw one.

The notes, signed by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison on March 4 th with new enhanced security features is an optically variable magnetic image with a new improved magnetic thread, a more noticeable water mark and an enhanced iridescent band at the back. The note is meant to strengthen the currency against faking; said by the Central Bank on April 8 th 2019 in a press release.

Citizens made a comparison between the old and new demarcating why there was a need for the government to introduce the new prints. “The old currency gets wet easily whiles the new has a bit plastic touch meaning, it will still be strong when it comes in contact with rain and other watery substance. The government must really be commended for the good work done” Maame Owusuaa; a shop attendant spoke out. Others also identified the new features on the currency which is missing from the old; the names of the Big Six tagged on the new prints, how deep the currency value has been written with ink, the bold silver lining and the shining star below the currency were all spoken of. “It’s a step in the right direction for Ghanaians. I think for once; the Ghanaian government has been able come out with the best currency prints for handling. Whenever these charcoal sellers get hold of the old one which was much of a paper, their stains remain on the currency ruining its beauty. Although these new one’s will go through the same fate as the old yet I see this to be sustaining than the old” Akwasi Bio, headmaster of nearby Mcneilus School addressed.

The issue of how the church congregation fold money for donation was marked out by interviewees. Akwasi Agyei, a concerned citizen also pleaded to the various churches in the country to educate their members on how to decently handle money for offering. “its very sad when money is been counted at church services after offering time. The way the congregation handle money is very unhealthy and damaging therefore, pastors and leaders should educate their members to handle them especially the newly printed ones in order to maintain its beauty” he entreated.
