ABSTINENCE OF HUSBANDS FROM BREASTFEEDING WIVES SHOULD BE EXTENDED TILL SIX MONTHS

The director of public health in Cross River State, Dr Iwara Iwara , a medical Practitioner said Husbands are expected to abstain from their breastfeeding wives for six months.

During a one-day media round table to consolidate on the gains of the World Breastfeeding Week in Calabar yesterday, the medical practitioner ask husbands to take good care of their wives when they are breastfeeding their new babies and should also abstain from incessant love making, 

He added "Husbands have usually had all the time with their wives before the delivery of the new born but as soon as the babies come in they must be given total and adequate attention, care and steady breastfeeding".

Dr Iwara who advocated paternity leave for men to enable them assist to their lactating wives also called for extension of maternity leave to six months.
