SOFOLINE INTERCHANGE HAS BECOME A DEFECATION SITE FOR CRIMINALS

Works on Kumasi Sofoline Interchange has been abandoned for weeds as well as a defecation site for hardened criminals.

The Interchange was started by the former president, John Agyekum Kufuor in 2008 to ease vehicular traffic on the Abuakwah Kwadaso highway. Although it stalled under the reign of the erstwhile president, the late John Evans Atta Mills, yet it purpose to ease commerce has been capable.

Soiree News visited the place on Monday and found beneath the interchange in ruins. According to some Zoomlion workers who spoke about the place, traders and people around the area have turned part of the Interchange as a defecation site during dawn.

“We are pleading to the government to take needed action to ensure the completion of this project. L learnt it will be used for a gardens but it is getting out of hand. People dump waste and have turned this place as a junkyard,” a Zoomlion worker said.

“You can go deep in the bush and see for yourself how the place has been turned to excretion grounds. We are here to tidy it up but some of these issues are way beyond us. The fact that we are tidying up the place does not mean we should do what goes beyond our health. If the government does solve this challenge quickly, people will tear this place down,” another said.

The Construction Company’s equipments were spotted at the site left unattended for a while. The crew also met a few workers who avoided the cameras and promised to talk when permitted by their unavailable leaders. They discussed with the crew on matters concerning the delay of the site which is as a result of finance yet they gave assurance that they hope their leaders will resolve the issues soon to complete the interchange into an ultra modern one.

The thick bushes under the Interchange have been left unattended and harboring weed smokers and smugglers. Containers were captured by the Soiree camera whiles cars were abandoned in the area. A washing bay was captured under the overhead where a man makes money with his home built as his place of work.

The gutters that are supposed to help easier passage of water whenever there is flood has been choked with growing weeds.
